Right Place

This is a quirky little short film I ran across a while ago. Enjoy.

And, on that note, Kentmas time has come at last! Yay me! This is of course the first day of Kentmas (Kentmas being the week leading up to my birthday). This year I’m going to try to delve into the lore and traditions of this wondrous holiday. If I remember to do so, that is. Forgetting to do things is one of the rich traditions of the Kentmas. That, and procrastination.

If I recall correctly, Kentmas started thousands of years in the future. It was brought back to us by time traveling pirates, who themselves came here to warn us of the coming ninja apocalypse. Well, more of a ninja annoyance. Well, some guy in pajamas making squishy noises with his hands. It was nothing that Chuck Norris couldn’t handle. However, Chuck Norris was off fighting the evil Vorticons along with Earth-3′s Dr. Robotnik. The pirates knew that one courageous podcaster would change the course of history with his words*. However, he was busy, so they listened to Up a Paddle instead. After listening for about five minutes (which is the maximum recommended monthly dosage, as recommended by 4 out 5 actors playing doctors on tv), the pirates went back into the future (at 88 mph) and were immediately defeated, but not by the ninjas. Oh no, a much more fearsome foe – the Smurf Armada. The Pirates picket fences and blades of grass were no match for the Smurfs superior jumping and double jumping ability. As it turned out, the Princess was in another castle. She had an onion on her belt, which was the style at the time. And then some other stuff happened.

Everybody yes!**

Later Bloggies

* Yes, I’m well aware that I’m ripping off Terminator and Lady in the Water.
** That’s the official Kentmas greeting. Be sure to say it like crazy. I know I will.
*** I’m very tired right now. If this story doesn’t make sense, I’ve done my job right. This is why I don’t write fan fiction.

Nicholas Cage is fast becoming the best actor ever! Between this and The Wicker Man, is there anything he cannot do?

I love when celebrities do commercials in Japan. They just are so bizarre. I think that since they can’t understand Japanese, most of the audience won’t be able to understand English (which is a reasonable assumption) and so they just go nuts.

She’s eleven years old and she is already a better dancer than I will ever hope to be. Also, what’s with all the popping and locking these kids are doing these days? It seems like the 80′s have snuck up on me again. Break dancing is one thing but I don’t know if I can live through a Smurfs revival. Those commie bastards need to stay in 80s where they belong. That is, unless they release a sequel to Smurfs: Rescue in Gargamel’s Castle – The Greatest Video Game EVER! On Colecovision 2! Actually, that would be a cool name for a console: Coleco 2! The exclamation point sells it. I need to get in touch with the Conneticut Leather Company, stat.

… anyhoo, impressive dancing. Props for the intro music. I didn’t know you could dance to “When You Wish Upon a Star” but there’s the evidence right there. I wonder what the best dance style would be for “When I’ve Seen an Elephant Fly” or “What Makes the Red Man Red.”*

Later Bloggies

* That one’s in Peter Pan. I can’t believe they didn’t censor that scene or have Leonard Maltin give one of his patented “It was a different time” speeches before the movie. Very racist. Like the Smurfs.
** In case you can’t tell, I’m pretty tired right now. If I keep going, I’m sure this post would turn into a rant about toothpaste, which would then evolve into a discussion on the finer points of dryer lint . I think I’ll just call it a night.

The following videos aren’t really funny ha ha, more funny strange. Keep in mind, the below clips are from a children’s movie. And I thought Pom Poko was bad, what with all the raccoon scrotums.

Ringing Bell – Clip 8 – Chirin’s Training

Ringing Bell – Clip 9 – Home Again

The above is the loving tale of Chirin the lamb whose mother is slaughtered mercilessly by a wolf. Rather than stay weak and afraid, the lamb begs the wolf to teach him how to be a wolf so that someday, he can get his revenge. The wolf trains Chirin and even becomes a sort of father figure to him. Chirin becomes a beast and kills without mercy. That is, until the wolf takes Chirin to hunt at Chirin’s old home. Seeing the baby lambs there made him see the error of his ways and so he kills the wolf in order to protect his kin. Although he saved them, the sheep see Chirin as a beast and reject him. With his mother and surrogate father now gone, he goes to die in the mountains, cold and alone.

This is definitely not a Disney movie.

It’s so dark I can’t believe that it was even made as a children’s movie. Well, that’s anime for you.
I’m not really sure what the moral of this story is, other than you’re darned if you do and darned if you don’t.

Man, this movie had to mess some kids up.

I heard about this movie from the latest Anime World Order podcast. If you’re into anime, you should give them a listen. They seem to know about all the obscure stuff like this.
