TV Shows you should be watching

By in Uncategorized

It has come to my attention that I haven’t written blog entries for the Book and TV categories yet. So this is a quick stab at the TV category:

Shows that you should be watching:

- Scrubs – One of the best sitcoms of the last few years. A comedy about medical interns. I just got the first season on DVD and am really enjoying it.
- Corner Gas – The best Canadian TV show out there. A show about a gas station owner in small town Saskatchewan. My sister just drove by the set tonight in Roleau and called me from her cell phone to tell me
- Arrested Development – The story of a rich family who lose everything and the son that has to keep them all together. Another great sitcom and it’s on Fox. I’m suprised it hasn’t been cancelled yet (not for lack of trying by Fox Execs). Fox just can’t seem to let good shows stay on the air. They have to be crushed so inane drivel like “Who Wants to Marry a Millionaire” can be aired. It would take the better part of an afternoon to list all the great shows that they’ve cancelled on me.
- Smallville – The story of Clark Kent before he became the Man of Steel. This fourth season has been hit or miss. They half heartedly focused on the overall plot arc (the main characters were all independently searching for three stones of knowledge and power) and was often ignored for lame monster of the week episodes. Also, it seemed like at least one character a week came down with a case of amnesia. There were some really good ideas this episode though. I really liked the introduction of Lois Lane to the cast and Lex Luthor was really developed as a character. I think that after Smallville is over, instead of doing a Metropolis focusing on Clark’s college years, they should do a show focused on Lex. He’s that good of a character. And at the end of the season finale, they teased us with A. The Fortress of Solitude, B. The death of one of the main characters and C. A new visitor from Krypton (could be Braniac, General Zod, Super Girl or even Beppo the Super Monkey). I will definetly be tuning in next season.
- Lost – The best new one hour show of this season. A plane crashes on a mysterious island and things are not what they seem. I hope that in the two hour finale they actually reveal a little more about the island. I want to know what the monster is. Is it a dinosaur or a mutated giraffe?

Shows to avoid like the plague
- Anything billed as Reality TV. This includes Amazing Race and the Apprentice. If we continue to watch these shows, they’ll continue to make cheap knockoffs. I don’t want to see “My midget gay wedding to a fake millionaire. With midgets” These shows are the reason Firefly was cancelled. Please think of the children.
- The Simpsons. Yeah, you read that right. The Simpsons has been going on for too long now and the show is a pale imitation of its former self. Sure you may get a chuckle or too out of it, but is that enough? I find that it is trying too much to be like Family Guy and is losing its own voice. The characters just aren’t as likeable anymore. When did Homer transform from a dim (very dim) but redeemable character to a loudmouth jerk. He doesn’t seem to have any motivation for doing the obnoxious stunts that he does anymore. The well has appeared to run dry when it comes to ideas too. The plots are now just devices used to get Homer to do something stupid. Oh, and they usually involve travelling somewhere and getting the celebrity of the week to help them. Also, the show has gotten too preachy as of late. I read enough about environmental issues, gay rights, and other issues in the news. Why do I need them in my cartoons? I guess the thing that really bugs me about the Simpsons is that it has been allowed to stay on the air while Futurama has been cancelled. The show was not really given a chance by Fox but that’s a rant for another time.

Ah, who am I kidding, I’ll probably watch it anyways out of habit.

Stay tuned Bloggies, Kentcer will be back after a word from our sponsors

HOLD THE PHONE
- Fox may be doing something good. I just got word, via Slashdot that Fox may be considering doing a Direct to DVD Futurama movie. This is incredible news. First Family Guy and now this. I really hope this pans out.
