Final Thoughts about E3

By in Uncategorized

Now that E3 is over, here are some quick thoughts about it.

Sony
- Everything on the PS3 looks real pretty. I hope it looks that way when the console is released. I also heard rumors that the console may release in the $400 to $500 range (US). If this is the case, it will be a long time before I pick one up, if at all.
- I really want to see Katmari Damacy and God of War on the PSP.
- Okami looks really good but since I don’t have a PS2, I’m probably not going to get to play it.

Microsoft
- I think they came out strong here. I wish they would have focused on the XBox 360 games and not so much on how Xbox360 live is going to attract non-gamers. Velocity Girl, I’m talking to you. Still, I can’t wait to see what the games look like on the actual hardware.

Sega
- Please, for the love of all that is holy, release a 3D Sonic game where you only play as Sonic. No guns or anything, just good old fashioned Sonic.
- It would have been nice to see the next gen Virtua Fighter and what console(s) it is going to be for.
- Also, Nights, you know you want to make it. Also a new Daytona.

Silicon Knights
- Please, please, please make another Eternal Darkness. This is still one of my favorite games.

Nintendo
- Where’s the beef? (Ha ha, an 80′s reference. I’m so clever) I have to say I’m a little dissapointed that we didn’t hear more about the Revolution. I can see Nintendo’s reason for it (don’t want the competition copying the Revolutionary feature) but I wish that you would have just said “We will not be showing the Revolution until Space World” and left it at that. Like a pirate with a steering wheel in his pants, all the little hints about what the Revolution “could be” are driving me nuts. Still, Super Smash Bros online will be pretty sweet. Quick list of characters that need to be included – Wario, Olimar, Diddy Kong, Kid Icarus, Ridley and guest stars Sonic, Pac-man and Viewtiful Joe (It could happen, look at Mario Kart GP – Pac-man’s in it). And they need to keep the name Revolution, it just sounds cool.
- It seems that Mario’s been overlooked this year. There’s at least 3 more possible games you could shoe-horn him in. I haven’t seen Mario Skateboarding, Mario Extreme Curling, and Mario Gardening yet. I mean seriously, seven games? At least throw Luigi another game. He needs the work.

And of course, my pick for the top game of E3:
Legend of Zelda – Twillight Princess.

Overall I was a little dissappointed with this E3. Although the next gen hardware looked amazing for XBox 360 and PS3 I didn’t really see any games I would want for either of them. The games I was interested in (Legend of Zelda, Fantastic Four, etc) I already knew about before the conference. There weren’t any real suprises and most developers seemed to have a case of Sequel-itis. And the system I was most interested in (Revolution) I learned the least about. At least next year’s E3 should be interesting. The Xbox 360 will be out and Sony and Nintendo will be scrambling to try and top them. We should actually see some next gen games next year.

At least I can use this disappointment to my advantage. While in this frame of mind I’m going to be able to go to Revenge of the Sith tomorrow with low expectations and it just may not suck as badly as Episodes 1 and 2. I’ll have a review up after I see the film.
